Course Overview

Mental Health First Aid Training

Mental Health First Aid is an educational course which teaches people how to identify, understand and help a person who may be developing a mental health issue. In the same way as we learn physical first aid, Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to recognise those crucial warning signs of mental ill health, and to become a MHFAider®

Developed in Australia in 2000 and now internationally recognised in 25 countries, MHFA courses teach people how to recognise the signs and symptoms of common mental health issues, provide help on a first aid basis and effectively guide someone towards the right support.

Format of the training:

  • Online or face-to-face course structured across four flexible sessions. Each session is a maximum of 3hrs 45mins and sessions can be delivered within a two week period.
  • Learners will be trained over four live sessions with an MHFA England Instructor Member, covering 14 hours of content in total.
  • Learning takes place through a mix of instructor led training, group discussions, individual and group activities.
  • Each session builds on the previous, enabling the learner to gain confidence in supporting others with a Mental Health First Aid action plan.
  • We limit numbers to 16 people per course so that instructors can keep people safe and supported while they learn.
  • We strive for all of our learning content to be as accessible and inclusive as possible.

Everyone who completes this course gets:

  • A of the workbook to support their learning throughout the course
  • A digital manual to refer to whenever they need it after completing the course
  • A wallet-sized reference card with the Mental Health First Aid action plan
  • A digital MHFAider certificate
  • The opportunity to join the Association of Mental Health First Aiders, England’s first and only membership body for Mental Health First Aiders. Members will receive exclusive access to a wide range of resources, from training and qualifications to events and research. This includes:
  • The MHFAider Support App®. Access to features such as a 24/7 text support service, signposting to a national database of health services, and insights that teach critical self-care skills
  • Access to the MHFA England Online Learning Hub. This includes resources such as course manuals and MHFAider® guides
  • First-hand insights. Learn from real people sharing their honest and lived experiences of mental health conditions
  • Online networking. Invites to exclusive quarterly webinars to help your MHFAiders carry out their role with confidence, skill, and care
  • Monthly newsletters. MHFAiders will be kept up to date with all the latest news from our community

Terms & Conditions

Please advise us in advance if the learner(s) has any special requirements that require reasonable adjustments to be made for the course to be accessible.

Where a course provides lunch and refreshments, this includes dietary requirements (open face-to-face courses only). We will endeavour to cater for all learner needs but we do require notification in advance.

Learners are required to arrive at the course in good time. If the learner is unable to attend on the day of training due to unforeseen circumstances, we will still apply a charge, as we still incur costs for the training provision, and will not be able to offer the place to another client.

Cancellations

Mind Matters reserves the right to cancel or alter the dates or provision of service, the venue (open face-to-face courses only), and the trainer providing the course. In the event of a cancellation, bookings will normally be transferred to the next available course unless the client specifically requests otherwise. As this is the case, we recommend you DO NOT book travel or accommodation until you receive our joining instructions (around 1-2 weeks before the start date), which confirms the training is going ahead.

If a booking is cancelled or transferred to a different course by the client, Mind Matters Training reserves the right to apply the following charges: Notice Given by Client % of course fee levied by Mind Matters

Lunch & Refreshments

For full day face-to-face open courses, lunch and refreshments are provided to learners. If your course is being delivered in-house, this is something you may wish to provide the learners at a cost to your organisation.

Please advise us in advance if delegate(s) have any special dietary requirements, any disabilities that would impact upon the course or any communication barriers that would impact upon the training course. We will endeavour to cater for everyone but we do require notification in advance.
